Report: Ruutu extended four years by Hurricanes

Carolina Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford removed Tuomo Ruutu from any further trade talk on Wednesday when he reportedly re-signed the right wing to a four-year, $19 million extension.

The agreement wasn't too surprising considering Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer, who first reported the signing, noted on Tuesday that Rutherford expected a decision on a contract extension from Ruutu's camp on Wednesday. If Ruutu didn't sign an extension, there would have likely been several teams lining up for his services.

Since the work stoppage in 2004-05, Ruutu has played 435 games and has 105 goals and 251 points. In 57 games this season, he has 17 goals and 30 points. Ruutu has played in four-plus season in Raleigh.
